I see that you salvage or cimosa in italian (I call it base) has three stitches. The sides has 2. The 2 stitches all around should be like a frame of a picture. I learned Puncetto with very little instructions. It tells me to start the base with three stitches but in the return row, you make only two. You continue to make two stitches. I usually do not count the bumps. I worked with two needle. First I thread one needle and I don't cut the thread from the ball. Then I work the base half way. The I cut a long thread from the ball and thread another needle. I start the pattern with that needle (from left to right). When I come near the end of the base stitches, I work the base some more, until the pattern is done (including the side salvage). This is not the proper way to start the design but it gives me better result because Puncetto is patience and precision. I've made several pieces. They are all in Flicker under Bluesea. You may also find them on the web under Puncetto.
